My praline pecan upside-down apple pie, which was lovingly baked by Marcella in Homewood AL has become a wonderful highlight of my November tours. It is to die for and I display worryingly Gollumesque protectiveness towards it – my precious! It has to be turned upside down whilst still scalding hot in a operation that would shame the Great British Bake off judges. Oh and I also did a great concert at the Wren’s Nest.

Nice ass…I’ll get my coat…My hostess Dorlea in Northern Alabama has a menagerie of animals that her husband Glen looks after.These guys are very friendly.

Phew, it’s been quite a slog over the last week as I wake up in Northern Arkansas, with a couple of days off to do a spot of trout fishing. Trish in Las Cruces snapped this picture of me outside the building in Old Mesilla where justice finally caught up with Billy the Kid.
Unfortunately no snaps of Texas ( as I was too busy driving!) but it was looking greener than I’d ever seen it after all the rain.

I had a couple of hours yesterday at the majestic White River in The Ozark Mountains. I caught a bunch of rainbow trout and one stonking brown trout as it was getting dark.

My discerning hosts took me to the new Hamilton distillery in Tucson where they are making Del Bac single malt whisky. The malted barley is dried using mesquite wood as an alternative to peat, giving it a very distinctive flavour. It is matured in new oak casks, these are small ones which in the hot climate can bring the spirit to maturity astonishingly quickly. It is proving to be very popular and they are selling out – the next batch won’t be ready until February. As a picky Scotsman I was very impressed with their ethos and operation.

Their still looks quite different from the traditional Scottish ones but certainly produces a guid wee drappie!
