‘Dae ye see yon high hills, A’ covered o’er wi’ snaw’…..this is the Highland Line – the great division between the fertile Perthshire farmlands and the wild mountains beyond, where Gaelic was mostly spoken until fairly recently. The southern part of Scotland is not remotely flat but all the peaks over 3000 feet (and there are over 300 of them) lie beyond this great hurdle. In the foreground The River Tay runs towards Perth.
